Wild River State Park

Wild River State Park is actually located on the banks of the St. Croix River.  It is named "Wild River" because it was one of the rivers protected by the United States Congress in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.  Most of the land in the park was donated to the State by Northern States Power many years ago.  They obtained it after the area had been used in the logging industry in the late 1800s and prior, by fur traders as a trapping and trading site.

The park has an abundance of wild life along its beautiful trails.  Lots of birds including hawks, owls, and eagles plus tons of songbirds.  Of course, the river makes a great habitat for beaver, raccoon, fox, coyote, otter, and even mink.  We even spotted a deer on our hike.  Be sure to take a day to hike these trails and Explore Your Backyard!
