Hiking a trail with my Dad
I visited Afton State Park on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 and created many fun and unique memories with my family.  It was neat for us especially as in our family we have lots of boy scouts and girl scouts.  I, myself, am earning my Gold Award in Girl Scouts, while my sister Brielle, is earning her Girl Scout Bronze award.  My sister Brynn, is also a girl scout.  My other three sisters are too young to be in scouts, but my Mom and Dad are both registered girl scout leaders.  My brother Brett is working on his Eagle project with boy scouts, while Brayden, Brock, and Brigham are also scouts.  Dad is the assistant troop master of one of the scout troops in Thief River Falls.  Scouting programs, both boy and girl scouts, promote many of the same things that the State Parks and Trails promote, such as outdoorsmanship, naturalist studies, orienteering, personal fitness, and hiking.  Afton State Park is a wonderful park to hike and camp as there is lots of wildlife to view and lots of challenging trails to hike.  Further, the camp sites offer stunning panoramic views and seclusion to enjoy all that nature has to share!   Take time to visit Afton State Park!

The park also participates in the Taking Action Opportunities project.  This project helps park managers implement habitat improvements but just as importantly, provides viewers a great opportunity to see in-action pictures of wildlife, from skunks, to coyotes, to deer, racoons, and more.  Take a look for yourself!  Click on the link above.

Even in October the colors are dazzling!
